An event that celebrates the joy of giving and combines it with surprise-actions
This festival might not be like any other you’ve heard of. The Leftside Give’ism festival is an autonomous one-day event that takes place simultaneously with the music festival Northside in Aarhus, Denmark. The experiment of Leftside festival is simply to see what happens if guests on their way to a normal festival unexpectedly are offered a great gift.
Do you dare to hop on the ropeway?
In an old industrial area, in the backyard of the Headquarters of the non-profit organisation Give’ism, over 40 citizens have build the walls of an abandoned chemistry factory; Verner Bryder A/S alias a terrace down to the beautiful stream running through Aarhus. The main path for walking to the huge music festival Northside is right on the other side of the stream, and if you pass by on festival-Saturday you will hear people shouting to you from the terrace: ’Hop on the ropeway and come over. We have 2000 beers, 12 concerts, free food, toilets and plenty of hugs. Everything is for free!’ Most people walking by simply don’t believe it, as nothing normally is for free. Some people get suspicious, thinking that there might be advertising all over. But there isn’t…
The idea came at a time where terror is happening in many cities and fear becomes a part of many people’s lives. This festival and the Give’ism people behind it wants to give prejudice a counteract, by creating an positive experience and an ambience, that leaves you feeling surprised and sometimes even moved by what emerges, when people create things together without expecting anything in return.
